DOES MOTOROLA MILESTONE XT720 LIVE UP TO ITS HYPE?

  • Built with the legacy of a long line of super popular smart phones, Motorola Milestone XT720 was supposed to give any other application based phone a run for its money.  Some people acknowledge this phone in the press as a "Droid without a keyboard."  Even though Motorola Milestone XT720 doesn't have the Qwerty keyboard, it still comes packed with many of the same features that have kept this line of smart phones in the best sellers list in the stores.

Some of the features Motorola Milestone XT720 boasts is chrome-like gloss and futuristic design functionality which has been prevalent in many Motorola design lab creations, as well as its 8 megapixel camera with Xenon flash.  It also comes standard with Google's Android 2.1 operating system and a 720MHz CPU speed.

Developed by Motorola, whose history began in 1928, and at that time manufactured battery eliminators for radios and the first walkie-talkie in 1940. Since then, Motorola grew to become a technology behemoth that produced everything from televisions, satellite systems, digital cable boxes, computer modems and more.

Here's what we like about Motorola Milestone XT720:

    PROS

DURABLE SCREEN-made with Gorilla Glass, one of the most strongest forms of glass around, this is very scratch and dent resistant. You can feel safe knowing that you're rougher on phones than the average user.

BRIGHT CLEAR IMAGES AND PICTURES-the screen carries 480x854 pixels and is only 3.7 inches, however it is the 8 pixel built in digital camera that makes it standouts with its photos.

STYLISH EYE POPPING DESIGN- its chrome and futuristic looks makes it appealing to the eye and therefore can warrant compliments in public.

EASY TO INSTALL APPS-navigation is critical with these types of machines, this makes it very convenient to get and use the applications that you want in no time.

SOLID AUDIO QUALITY-for those of you that like to listen to music, there should be no problem playing your favorite jams on here, unless your accustomed to mp3 speakers blasting in your ears.  The quality of sound with Motorola Milestone XT720 phone calls is clear as well.

    CONS

MESSY SCREEN- be prepared to have to wipe off smudge and grease from your hands on this one.  The screen gets dirty in an instant but it's more of an annoyance than anything.

720 VIDEO BEHIND THE PUCK-although the still images are of top-notch quality, the video component of Motorola Milestone XT720 tends to be jerky.

ANDROID 2.1 ÉCLAIR- this is a solid version of the operating system, but not the absolute latest version, the 2.2. It just leaves more to be desired from a feature standpoint.

    CONCLUSION

This is a solid effort by Motorola to provide Droid capabilities with the Milestone's functionality. It has definitely stepped up to the plate in terms of image capture, but there are a few things that have been left off, some of which you can overlook, and some you can't.  In terms of speed, ease of use and overall functionality, Motorola Milestone XT720 is considered among the other mid-tiered phones available in its class. From the price vs. feature standpoint, this is more in the higher price classification than we would like to see. Price aside, it still is a solid buy.

Motorola Milestone XT720 Review

Sep/10
  • The Motorola Milestone XT720 is one of the most anticipated phones to come out of the Motorola Corporation. After the huge success of the Motorola Droid, the Motorola Milestone XT720 follows up gracefully. Unlike the Droid, this phone has a complete touch system with impressive processing functionalities that are sure to pique the interests of heavy users.

The screen is beautifully set, and at 3.7 inches, the Motorola Milestone XT720 gives just the perfect display to its users. A vivid TFT capacitive touch screen with a display of 480x854 pixels greets anyone who uses this cell, and there is a large array of impressive features inside the phone as well. The Motorola Milestone XT720 does not have any external navigation control, which means that you must make do with the navigation controls located on the touch screen.

For many, this is quite an apprehensive factor, but for those who know how well Motorola have come up with their options, they would know that the responsive touch screen gives the perfect view. The Motorola Milestone XT720 has four dedicated touch buttons located below the screen, and a multi touch input method also gives a great option for many people.

Like all other touch phones, the Motorola Milestone XT720 also has an accelerometer sensor for auto rotating the User Interface, and a proximity sensor is also located for turning the phone off while not in use. The phone has a 3.5 mm audio jack for sound output, but the outstanding feature of the phone is its processing capabilities. The Motorola Milestone XT720 has an integrated 256 MB RAM with 512 MB Rom, which although might not sound as good as it should, is still quite enough for the phone's processing capabilities. The phone has an ARM Cortex A8 720 MHZ processor, with a PowerVR SGX530 dedicated graphics processor. The dedicated graphics processor ensures that the phone does not fall off on any computing front, and you get all the functionality that you might require. An extremely responsive touch screen makes sure that the phone functions exactly on your touch, and the Motorola Milestone XT720 has turned up to be quite a rival for the iPhone. It has active noise cancellation with the dedicated microphone, and you also get support for third party applications. Furthermore, the Motorola Milestone XT720 makes use of the Android 2.1 Éclair, but also has support for Android 2.2 as well. The phone has T-DMB broadcasting, a dedicated HDMI port, a digital compass and anything else that you might require. The shape of the Motorola Milestone XT720 is also stylishly set up.

The impressive 8 MP camera allows you to take pictures of a resolution as high as 3264x2448 pixels, and it also has a LED flash as well as autofocus. The Motorola Milestone XT720 is only available in one color, which is Gentle Black; however there is a combination of silver on it as well on the front screen. Talk time is approximately 8h 40 min on a 3G downlink transmission, and around 9 hours on a 2G network.
