The blackberry curve 8980 may look quite similar to its predecessor, blackberry 8900 however the phone offers marked changes. The Blackberry Curve 8980 runs using the blackberry 5 operating system and comes with a RAM of 256MB. The Blackberry Curve 8980 is slated for release in China but may also retail in the US particularly in North America with its world market release set for a later date. The phone is expected to be released into the market in February 2011.
The Blackberry Curve 8980 is likely to retail at a cost effective price judging by the fact that it will use a 2G network which puts it down on the list of high end smart phones. The phone seems to have taken the bold 9700 look combined with a blackberry curve 8900 keyboard but lacking the 3G capabilities of these phones. RIM has sort FCC approval to offer the Blackberry 8980 named Atlas for sale in North America. However the phone’s specifications do not make the blackberry curve 8980 suitable for the U.S market and will likely retail only in China with the Chinese consumers favoring 2G modeled smart phones. RIM is expected to upgrade the phone’s features if it will retail in the North American market.

What’s Great About The Blackberry Curve 8980
PROS
The Blackberry Curve 8980 works well for business oriented people and as with the other blackberry curves a new addition to the family is always welcomed.
CONS
- The specs may be a bit of a let down to those who expected it to operate on an advanced network and not the EDGE network which it operates on.
- Most smart phones are shifting to the 4G bandwagon and this phone lacks a 3G support at least which makes it a further let down.
- The Blackberry Curve 8980 should have come with the advanced blackberry 6 OS to make it much more functional.
- The video does not support video calls and lacks a secondary camera.
CONCLUSION
The Blackberry Curve 8980 will be a great addition to the bold family, if RIM offers an upgraded version of the phone for the U.S and international market.
